Gisela appeared at a breakfast meeting last week with some of the other potential candidates for Birmingham mayor, talking about how the city would benefit from having an elected mayor.
“At the moment,” she said, “the process means that no-one is held accountable for the decisions that are made on behalf of Birmingham. I want one person who is responsible, who is elected by the 720,000 voters of Birmingham.”
When asked about the referendum on May 3rd, she said that it was crucial for turnout to be high for that and for the council elections. “Whether they say yes or no, the more that come out to vote, the better – and I hope they say yes.”
